Data Loading
The legacy system data loads that should be budgeted for when estimating the cost of a PLM or ECM implementation include:
- Drawings and engineering bills of material
- Policy and procedure documents, quality manual
- Work instructions
- Work authorizations
- Design basis documents/databases
- Contracts
- Proposals
- Laboratory test results
- Certification packages
- Software
- Plant maintenance
Data Loading Issues:
A few of the challenges associated with a data load from a legacy system include:
Create names for objects:
- Name and revision must be unique.
- Names must have a useful structure.
- Names must address both parts lists and drawings.
- Names for files must include page numbers.
Generate load files for objects:
- Revisions must be sorted so they can be loaded in order.
- Security codes must be included so appropriate policies can be loaded for objects.
- Objects must be loaded in the appropriate state.
Validate the results:
- Some documents and pages may not load.
- Check such issues as key existence, key uniqueness, coverage of the input source file by the resulting load files, and so on.
